FIELD: safety equipment. SUBSTANCE: safety device has casing 1 with handle, supporting member 2 formed as rectangular bar mounted within casing 1 and provided with semicylindrical channel 9 on one of its long sides. Balancing lever 4 with unequal arms is positioned in opposed relation to supporting member 2 on pin 3. Balancing lever arms are provided with rope receiving channels. Toothed gear 14 with wedge-shaped slot narrowing in inward direction is mounted on one end of supporting member 2. Wedge-shaped slot is adapted for retaining of rope by arm 19 of balancing lever in case rope is broken. Mushroom-shaped projection 17 arranged in opposed relation to toothed gear 14 facilitates additional rope braking by twisting it. Cover mounted on pin 7 closes rope channel defined by casing, balancing lever and bar. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified construction and enhanced reliability in operation. 9 dwg
