FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: dummy bar is made of cast metal in the form of wedge with lower vertical section and installed with clearance between mold separated walls. Dummy bar is made of metal possessing the property of resistance to plastic deformation in cold state that is lower than that of cast metal. Mold has two vertical walls intended for reciprocation and two walls inclined in their upper part for rotary motion. Height H1 of the entire dummy bar, height h1 of vertical section of dummy bar, angle β of inclination of dummy bar surface to vertical are connected with mold parameters by the following relations H1 = (0.5-0.7)H, h1 = (0.2-0.3)H1; β = (α-3) - (α-5) deg; where H is height of vertical calibrated section of mold, α is angle of inclination of mold walls in the upper part.
