FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: walls of mould are set in motion: one pair in rotary motion, the other pair in reciprocating motion. Melt is fed after achievement of working speed allowing dummy bar to be deformed and pushed through mould. Dummy bar is manufactured from material of melt and is installed in mould with clearance. Walls of mould are produced from materials having different thermal conductivity. Ratio of coefficients of thermal conductivity of materials of walls of second and first pairs amounts to 1.5-2.0 if water cooling conduits in all walls are made at same distance from surface. EFFECT: increased productivity of manufacture of good billets of unspecified form with improved quality of surface and internal structure. 3 cl, 2 dwg
