FIELD: continuous casting equipment. SUBSTANCE: dummy bar is used in mold having two vertical walls and two walls with inclined upper portions. Two vertical walls of mold may perform reciprocation motion; two walls with inclined upper portion may perform rotation. Dummy bar includes tail and head portions and it is made of metallic cast links with resistance to plastic deformation in cold state less than that of cast metal. Links are in the form of wedges introduced with gap between spaced apart walls of mold. Each link has two drilled through holes for mounting them. Between links there are thin-wall pipes with washers and rope with lock. Surfaces of links of dummy bar are arranged in parallel relative to surfaces of walls of mold. Height h1 of link, distance h2 between links, thickness a2 of wedge part of link, width b1 of link are related one with another and with parameters of mold by next relations: h1= (0.2-0.3)H; h2=(1.2-1.4)h1; a1=(0.2-0.3)a; b1= (0.85-0.95)b, where H - height of upper portion of wall inclined relative to vertical line, a, b - thickness and width of cast billets. EFFECT: enhanced operational reliability of mold and efficiency of casting process. 3 cl, 5 dwg, 2 tbl
