FIELD: phosphorus compound production. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to copper phosphides with phosphorus content 8 to 55%. Synthesis is carried out in the mixture of fine copper and red phosphorus powders. Reaction is initiated by heating a region of the mixture to copper-phosphorus interaction temperature (above 400 C), after which reaction expands spontaneously because of high exothermicity of components interaction. Fine powders fully and smoothly interact with each other yielding phosphide with desired content of components. Process requires no inert medium and can be performed in air under atmosphere pressure.
