FIELD: laser engineering, more specifically, laser treatment of metals. SUBSTANCE: method consists in lamp firing, arc initiation and voltage increase that results in rise of current flow through lamp up to occurrence of generation. After lamp firing positive half-cycles are supplied with frequency of 150-180 Hz, stationary arc is formed with current of 15-17 A, half-cycle duration is changed from 3.0 to 6.5 ms and pulse is formed with power determined by the offered mathematical relation. The device for embodiment of the offered method consists of successively connected transformer, three-phase rectifier and firing unit. Control unit and DC amplifier are successively connected to each other and to rectifier, and additional injection unit is parallel to rectifier. The device is additionally provided with shock-wave protection unit and high-voltage protection unit. Shock-wave protection unit is provided between rectifier and pumping lamp with series-parallel connection. High-voltage protection unit is arranged between rectifier and firing unit with series-parallel connection. Provision is also made of contactor switch installed between additional injection unit and rectifier. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 4 cl, 5 dwg, 1 tbl
