FIELD: meteorology, civil aviation. SUBSTANCE: method refers to radio engineering procedures locating thunderstorms at range up to 15 km with the aid of passive reception system. Super long wave signal of thunderstorm- atmospherics is received with the use of vertical electrical antenna and two magnetic loop antennas and acoustic signal-thunder is received by means of several acoustic signal receivers spaced apart over territory. Electromagnetic signal is employed to determine azimuthal angle of source and to form narrow-beam directivity diagram of reception of acoustic signal. Difference between moments of arrival of electromagnetic and acoustic signals is used to determine range to source. EFFECT: increased range and diminished coarse errors in location of thunderstorms. 1 dwg
