FIELD: metal-working industry. SUBSTANCE: manufactured rail contains (in wt %): carbon, 0.85-1.20; silicon, 0.10-1.00; neodymium, 0.40-1.50; boron, 0.0005-0.0040; and, when necessary, at least one of: chromium, 0.05-1.00; molybdenum, 0.01- 0.50; vanadium, 0.02-0.30; niobium, 0.002-0.05; and cobalt, 0.10-2.00. Rail is quickly cooled with cooling rate 5 to 15 C/s from the austenite zone temperature to 650-500 C. Rail steel has perlite structure manifesting hardness 370 Hv in the zone extending from rail's head part to position at the depth 20 mm from the head surface. Strength difference within this range does not exceed 30 Hv. EFFECT: improved working characteristic s of rail. 4 cl, 3 dwg , 3 tbl
