FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: electrode roaster gas (2 to 3 percent of total amount) is fed through ring torches around each electrode in zone of feed hoppers in sector of 60 deg towards center of furnace; 6 to 7 percent in adjoining 60 deg sectors and 10 to 12 percent in remaining portion. Gas in amount of 25 to 27 percent in 60-deg sectors between electrodes is fed through ring torch on hearth over perimeter of furnace bath lining and 13 to 15 percent in remaining portion till temperature of electrode mass in zone of contact reaches 600 to 800 C. Then roasting with electric current is effected till complete forming of electrodes in this zone. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 1 tbl
