FIELD: mechanical engineering; railway car building; manufacture of bogie overspring beams, connecting beams of freight cars and other parts with support surfaces liable to wear in service; repair of support surfaces of above mentioned parts. SUBSTANCE: wear resistant layer is formed on support surface of part by upsetting cover of wear resistant iron-carbon alloy onto surface at forging temperature. Upsetting is done by application of uniformly distributed static load until thickness is obtained equal to deviation of position of support surface from nominal dimension in direction of load application. Then cover is cooled with holding at maximum load to temperature of 350-550 C. This done, load is removed from part and cover is welded along line of its mating with support surface of part. Cooling of cover in loaded state is carried out at a speed of 10-70 degrees/s and welding of cover is done at temperature of 250-350 C. EFFECT: improved quality of articles. 1 dwg
