FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: present invention describes method of preparing niobium and alloys based thereon by alumothermal reduction at high temperature in the presence of additives. Reduction is carried out by using alkali, metal as original compound, and introducing magnesium, the ratio of components is as follows: alkali metal niobate, 50-70; metallic aluminium, 27-45, and metallic magnesium, 3-5. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method.
