FIELD: casting melt metal, especially melt lead and its alloys with wide temperature range of solidification to strips used in grids of storage batteries. SUBSTANCE: strip is made at casting on cooled surface of rotating drum melt metal from bath of casting unit provided with terminal graphite liner engaged with casting surface adjoining to casting unit for defining melt metal bath. Casting unit includes feed chamber, return chamber and deflection chamber. Feed and deflection chambers provide elimination of turbulence of fed melt metal. Return chamber has vertically adjusted lip separating it from deflection chamber for controlling surface level of melt metal bath in deflection chamber and in liner and also for deflecting melt metal flow to return chamber. Low antimony-lead alloy is preferably used for casting strip subjected to heat treatment for expanding and shaping it at making expanded grids with cells for storage batteries. EFFECT: enhanced electrochemical properties, increased corrosion resistance and growing proofness of grids. 26 cl, 3 dwg
