FIELD: organic chemistry and chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of hydroxycarbonylation of pentenoic acids to adipic acid using carbon monoxide and water in the presence of iridium- and/or rhodium-base catalyst and at least one promoter. The obtained reaction mixture is subjected for refining process if necessary after concentrating that ensures to separate at least part of an expensive catalyst. The separated catalyst is recirculated to the process of hydroxycarbonylation of pentenoic acids, butadiene or butadiene derivatives. EFFECT: improved method of hydroxycarbonylation. 12 cl, 3 ex
