FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: device has housing accommodating catalytic reactor filled with catalyst and phase transition heat accumulator being space formed between housing of device and reactor, limited at end faces by screen partitions to pass exhaust gases and filled with heat accumulating substance undergoing phase transition "melting-crystallization" at contact with exhaust gases of engine. Liquid heat exchanger for prestarting heating of engine is placed inside heat accumulating substance. Device provides efficient cleaning of engine exhaust gases and utilization of their heat by maintaining high temperature level in catalytic reactor with engine idling and at partial loads owing to heat accumulated in phase transition accumulator when engine operates at nominal or close to nominal loads and owing to intensification of heat exchange in heat accumulator. EFFECT: enhanced cleaning of exhaust gases. 1 dwg
