FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: by acting on control member at change of engine load, signal is supplied to control unit which generates signals setting cyclic delivery of fuel into cylinders and positions of lever rocking axles providing preset compression ratio, piston stroke, positions of dead centers and displacement and defining number of operating cylinders. Owing to change in positions of lever rocking axle coupled by some ends with drives moving lever rocking axles by signal from control unit and by other ends with hinge joints of articulated connecting rods of pistons piston stroke and displacement are changed to meet required load. Articulated connecting rods couple pistons with crankshaft. Positions of piston dead centers are changed by shifting hinge joints of articulated connecting rods from cylinder axes and returning the joints to axle under action of lever. As load rises, number of operating cylinders, displacement and piston stroke of operating cylinders are increased by signal from control unit. EFFECT: increased economy of engine, reduced toxicity of exhaust gases. 12 cl, 14 dwg
