FIELD: medicine, pharmacy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to new alkaloids from Mappia foetida (foetidines 1 and 2) of the general formula (I) where R is H (1) or R is OCH₃ (2). These water-soluble alkaloids are precursors of camptothecin and 9-methoxycamptothecin which are present in all parts of plant being the latter are water-insoluble. New water-soluble alkaloids can be used for parenteral administration that ensures to avoid the use of toxic vehicles and unwanted chemical derivatives. Foetidines are obtained by extraction of different parts of plant Mappia foetida with aliphatic low-molecular alcohols or ketones.
