FIELD: fire-fighting equipment. SUBSTANCE: method involves supplying inert gas into combustible liquid and foam-generating solution into liquid above zone of producing bubbles of bubbling inert gas, with inert gas being cooled to temperature below foam-generating solution freezing point prior to being supplied into liquid. Apparatus has foam-generating solution vessel connected via pipeline to bubbler placed within liquid and provided with nozzle, ignition warner and lock valves. Nozzle is positioned in liquid above and adjacent to bubbler. Foam-generating solution vessel may be mounted in reservoir with liquid. Swirl pipe mounted in pipeline connecting inert gas source to bubbler has nozzle inlet connected with inert gas source. Cold flow pipeline is connected to bubbler. EFFECT: increased stability of foam generated and supplied onto surface of burning liquid, reduced consumption of foam-generating solution and inert gas, increased efficiency in suppressing burning of liquid in reservoirs. 7 cl, 1 dwg
