FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: drive unit has engine and hydrodynamic retarder-brake which is in constant kinematic coupling with engine. Drive unit has also cooling liquid circuit cooling liquid in which serves simultaneously as working liquid of retarder-brake. At traction mode retarder-brake can be used as cooling liquid pump. Retarder brake is designed for constant complete filling. Ratio between inlet section Az of retarder-brake and its outlet section Aa at braking is 4-7, and at traction is 0.5-2. EFFECT: increased braking power at retarder-brake operation or increased stability of retarder-brake, and reduced braking power at other operation mode of retarder-brake. 2 dwg
