FIELD: thermal treatment, intermediate or final thermal treatment of sheet-rolling working and back-up rolls made of chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steels. SUBSTANCE: process involves hardening of rolls to temperatures of 850-950 C with regulated cooling and subsequent tempering. Cooling is conducted by supply of water and air mixture to surface of roll barrel with specific consumption of water between 1.6-2.0 kg/sq.m s and duration of period of supply found from calculation of 0.3-2.7 s/mm of barrel diameter. After this specific consumption is decreased to 0.1-0.2 kg/sq.m s and cooling of roll is finished. EFFECT: enhanced operational resistance of rolls. 1 tbl
