FIELD: nonferrous metal industry; magnesium production by electrolysis of molten salts. SUBSTANCE: proposed electrolyzer that functions to produce magnesium at low loss due to its chlorination has shell with refractory lining, electrolytic compartment whose bottom mounts chlorine deflecting anodes and side wall carries cathodes forming interelectrode distance, and collecting cell separated from electrolytic departments by partition with transfer channels. Anodes and cathodes are installed at permanent distance between upper level of anodes and upper edge of cathode equal to one or two interelectrode distances.
