REINFORCED-CONCRETE CONTAINER Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

FIELD: storage and transportation of nuclear wastes. SUBSTANCE: reinforced-concrete body of container has internal and external shells with bottoms joined on top of body with forged steel ring and lids wherein ring is provided with lintel. Space between sealed lids forms check cavity communicating with alarm system; concrete filler is reinforced with bent vertical rods uniformly arranged vertically over inner surface circumference of external steel shell. Rods are secured in top of body on forged ring and at bottom they are attached to steel disk placed between bottoms. Vertical rods are joined through height and uniformly over circumference through external rings, heat-transfer rods, and internal rings in row-by-row manner with internal shell only to form three-dimensional reinforcing lattice over entire concrete filler; it is placed in a spaced relation to inner surface of external shell. Container accommodates can for fuel assemblies provided with hexahedral, rectangular, or round tubes; tube-to-tube clearances are filled through height with rows of zigzag-shaped or straight spacing sheets welded to can; spacer rows are uniformly distributed over circumference and through can height. EFFECT: improved transfer of residual heat from fuel assemblies through structural members of can and container walls. 7 dwg
