FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed invention is aimed at improving economy and reducing toxicity in spark ignition internal combustion engine. Working process in internal combustion engine with communicating cylinders comes to successive execution of intake and compression of working medium, spark ignition, working stroke and exhaust of gases realized in communicating cylinders asynchronously with angle of crankshaft turning. Working medium consisting of fuel-air mixture is delivered also into second cylinder and, with working mixture burning in first cylinder, maximum combustion pressure is reduced by directing part of working medium into second cylinder after which mixture of working media in second cylinder, thus formed, in ignited, flowing of working medium from first cylinder into second cylinder is stopped and part of burning mixture from second cylinder is directed into first cylinder, thus reducing maximum combustion pressure in second cylinder. part of working medium directed into second cylinder is equal to 5-30% of working medium in first cylinder.
