FIELD: study of resistance of materials to wear or fretting. SUBSTANCE: method is meant to test present state of contacting surfaces, to select and assign lubricating media, to choose optimal friction pairs. Regions of local stationarity of signals ( of variable component of natural thermoelectromotive force ) are isolated by way of recording and analysis of signals of natural thermoelectromotive force and acoustic vibration emission emerging at same time under contact interaction in real time. These regions are classified and wear intensity is computed as sum of contributions of separate classes of contact interaction. EFFECT: increased authenticity and accuracy of evaluation of intensity of wear-out of contacting surfaces. 2 dwg, 1 tbl
