FIELD: wear resistance assessment.
SUBSTANCE: invention is used to assess the wear resistance of thin-layer ceramic coatings using the acoustic emission method. The friction is performed between the steel counter-body and the tested thin-layer ceramic coating. With the help of an indenter, two friction tracks are formed on the coating – the experimentally evaluated one and the calibrated one. When forming friction tracks, acoustic emission is recorded, the proportionality coefficient corresponding to this particular coating material is calculated, the mass of the worn material of the experimental friction track, its average depth and worn volume are calculated in the absence of coating destruction, and the relative wear resistance of the coating is determined.
EFFECT: technical result is providing the possibility of determining the worn micro-volume and the wear rate of thin-layer ceramic coatings in a friction pair based on complex processing of acoustic emission signals.
