FIELD: crystal growing. SUBSTANCE: monocrystal β-BaB2O4 useful for laser emission frequency conversion includes growth in BaO-B2O3-Na2O system from solution melt, composition of which is defined by the region ABCD-A'B'C'D' with following coordinates of points, molar parts of BaO, B2O3 and Na2O, respectively: A - 0.54, 0.39, 0.07; B - 0.41, 0.41, 0.18; C - 0.36, 0.46, 0.18; D - 0.25, 0.50, 0.25; A' - 0.53, 0.42, 0.05; B' - 0.445, 0.445, 0.11; C' - 0.40, 0.49, 0.11; D' - 0.33, 0.50, 0.17. Compositions of given region provide reduction of solution melt viscosity leading to increase in temperature range suitable for growing at specified stretching velocity and allowing growing crystals with length in crystallographic direction [0001] up to 20-25 mm and characterized by good values of optical quality and possibility of manufacturing optical elements.
