FIELD: recovery of wastes containing precious elements or those environmentally harmful. SUBSTANCE: thoriated tungsten wastes are fluorinated with element fluorine having stoichiometric excess of 15-20% at initial temperature of 180- 300 C. Tungsten hexafluoride obtained in the process changes to gas phase and is removed from reactor. Thorium tetrafluoride is concentrated in solid residue. Tungsten hexafluoride is condensed at -18 to -25 C and used to produce tungsten powder, coatings, and compact items using hydrogen reduction process. Thorium tetrafluoride is conveyed to recovery or disposal areas. EFFECT: facilitated procedures in handling radioactive wastes and reduced power requirement. 2 cl, 1 dwg
