FIELD: quantum electronics. SUBSTANCE: laser gamma-rays are generated by shaping electron-beam pulses of definite length to produce coherent electron beam. Laser rays are passed to coherent electron beam in reverse direction. Photon energy of laser radiation is amplified due to coherent reverse Compton dissipation thereby shaping directional gamma-radiation. Device generating gamma-rays has optical-range laser, storage ring or amplifier with opposing electron and positron beams, facility implementing function of shaping electron-beam pulses whose length is sufficient to produce coherent electron beam, and facility for projecting laser beam in direction opposing that of coherent electron beam. EFFECT: facilitated shaping of high- power coherent electron beam and generation of laser gamma- radiation. 6 cl, 1 dwg
