FIELD: rolled stock production. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of placing rolls in electromagnetic or magnetic field, orienting field vector along diametrical plane of roll parallel relative to rolling plane; passing electric current through rolls; distributing pressure acting upon rolls by changing magnetic flux intensity along generatrices of roll barrels; creating rolling effort by using forces of attraction and repulsion of rolls; in order to provide attraction force of rolls, arranging poles of electromagnets or magnets between diametrical plane of roll and rolling plane; in order to provide repulsion force of roll, placing electromagnets or magnets in such a way that their analogous poles are turned one to another with possibility of rotating them by angle α in horizontal plane. Rolling stand is provided at least with one pair of pressure rolls mounted with possibility of free motion in vertical plane between poles of electromagnets or magnets. Magnets are mounted with possibility of motion in horizontal plane. At least one pair of permanent magnets or electromagnets is mounted with possibility of motion in horizontal and vertical planes. Magnetic circuits are made of permanent magnets and have control coils energized by different-sign pulses of electric current. EFFECT: shortened time period for roll changing and idle period of rolling mill, enhanced quality of rolled metal. 5 cl, 7 dwg, 1 ex
