FIELD: manufacture of gear wheels with circular teeth having tendency for formation of defects such as burnouts and cracking at deep gear grinding. SUBSTANCE: grinding wheel includes dents and recesses having two forming surfaces for simultaneously shaping concave and convex faces of teeth. Dents are in the form of trapeziums with lateral sides inclined by 360 deg relative to circle generatrix. Length of recess is determined in dependance upon grinding depth t(mm), rolling out speed VV3(m/s), thermal conductivity T(m2/s), of blank material, cutting speed Vcr(m/s) and criterion F. EFFECT: simple adjustment and design of machine tool due to comparative simplicity of motions of grinding wheel, improved conditions for supplying cutting fluid to grinding zone due to lowered heat stresses in spite of increased grinding force during grinding wide-rim gear wheels with increased contact zone of grinding wheel and blank, enhanced efficiency and accuracy of ground teeth without burnouts and resulting possibility for intensifying the whole process. 2 dwg
