FIELD: carbon materials. SUBSTANCE: mesoporous fibrous- structure carbon material including in its bulk up to 10% of nitrogen heteroatoms is characterized by specific surface 50-160 sq.m/g, pore volume 0.18-0.50 cu.cm/g, and average pore diameter 5-20 nm. Granules of this material are formed by randomly twisted fibers 15 to 150 nm in diameter, each fiber being formed by layers of graphite-like carbon packed at an angle at least 45 deg. Claimed material is prepared by decomposing multicomponent raw material consisting of carbon and nitrogen sources in gas-vapor phase at atmosphere pressure and temperatures at least 550 C in presence of nickel-containing metal catalysts. Materials are adequate for use as adsorbents, catalyst carriers, and chemisorbents. EFFECT: extended application area. 4 cl, 2 dwg, 3 tbl, 9 ex
