FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed drive unit designed for use in automobiles has internal combustion engine with crankshaft and crankcase, hydrodynamic retarder-brake with housing, rotor and stator arranged in retarder-brake housing, and fen with shaft. Retarder-brake rotor is installed either on above-indicated crankshaft, or on end trunnion coaxial with shaft. Proposed unit has intermediate housing installed on above-indicated crankcase. Intermediate housing is arranged between crankcase at one side and retarder-brake and fan from other side. At least fan and housing of retarder brake with stator are mounted on intermediate housing.
