FIELD: mining industry. SUBSTANCE: method can be used in underground mining of gas-bearing coal seams along strike by long pillars with caving of roof. According to method, stoping face is ventilated by application of straight-flow or return-flow scheme with withdrawing part of outflowing stream through worked-out area by means of gas-exhausting fan. Created in zones of worked-out area close to conjugations of stoping face and air-supplying and air-withdrawing entries as stoping face advances are air-impermeable strips. In zone of conjugation of stoping face and air-supplying entry, air-impermeable strip is created along stoping face after distance which is not larger than setting pitch of immediate roof. In zone of conjugation of stoping face and air-withdrawing entry with application of return-flow ventilation scheme, air-impermeable strip is erected similarly to procedure. At straight-flow ventilation scheme along supported air-exhaust entry, air-impermeable strip can be erected by treating caved rock matter with foamed gel-creating compounds. Application of method allows for reducing amount of leaking air, and efficiency of gas-exhausting fan is improved, also reduced is penetration of methane into work-face area.
