FIELD: steelmaking. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to heating steel in steel-casting ladle based on utilizing heat of exothermic oxidation reactions. Aluminum wire is added into ladle, after which metal in ladle is blown with oxygen through immersed lance. According to invention, preliminary amount of aluminum is added into ladle before blowing with oxygen and this amount (P, kg per 1 t steel) is determined from dependence: P = K1 M/[Al]t, where t is temperature of steel in ladle, oC; M mass of steel in ladle, t; [Al] concentration of aluminum in steel before treatment, wt %; K1 empirical factor ranging between 0.007 and 0.56 kg.%.oC./t2. Addition of aluminum is continued simultaneously with blowing with oxygen, whose intake (Q, cu.m/min per 1 t steel) is determined from dependence: Q = K2.q.Δt.M, where Q is consumption of aluminum varying between 50 and 180 kg/min; Δt required increase of temperature in ladle, oC; K2 empirical factor equal to (0.05-4.0). 10-6 cu. m/kg.t2.oC. EFFECT: increased steel heating productivity and efficiency. 1 tbl, 5 ex
