FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: mixture of gaseous hydrocarbon fuel and part of combustion products are delivered into internal combustion engine with excess oxidizer coefficient greater than 0.8 and are compressed by working member till self-ignition with formation of combustion products and carrying out of mechanical work. Mixture of gaseous hydrocarbon fuel, oxidizer, part of combustion products and metered out amount of water or water vapors can be delivered into working space of internal combustion engine. This mixture, being compressed, gets self-ignited with formation of combustion products and carrying out of mechanical work. Fuel-oxidizer mixture and part of combustion products of previous cycle can be delivered into working space of internal combustion engine partially filled with combustion products of previous cycle. Mixture is compressed and gets self ignited with formation of combustion products and carrying out of mechanical work. Addition initiating process of fuel mixture self ignition and enlarging the range of stable burning can be added into fuel-oxidizer mixture. Internal combustion engine can be furnished with additional fuel mixture ignition system (spark, fuel injection, etc).
