FIELD: pulp and paper industry. SUBSTANCE: method comprises reacting corresponding fatty acids with lower tertiary amine in anhydrous organic solvent, followed by treatment of reaction mixture with dilute hydrochloric acid, isolation of the resulting aqueous solution of tertiary amine hydrochloride and distillation of solvent. Aqueous solution of tertiary amine hydrochloride is separated after treatment of reaction mixture with dilute hydrochloric acid to pH of 5-6.5 and 0.5-1.5% aqueous solution of deemulsifier till precipitate is completely dissolved, and water is added to the resulting organic dimer solution, and the desired product is isolated in the form of azeotrope with water. Method makes it possible to prepare product which contains 96.3-97.4 % of main material and 0.15% or lower of residual solvent during shorter period of process of isolation of dimers.
