SUBSTANCE: method involves setting biological sample in contact with the first polypeptide reagent containing type-specific epitope, showing specificity for the first type of hepatitis C virus and/or epitope of a cluster-specific epitope showing specificity for the first type of hepatitis C virus cluster or to antibody sets showing specificity for the mentioned epitopes. The epitopes are selected from epitopes localized between amino acid residues 67 and 84, 1689 and 1718, and 2281 and 2313 HCV-1 or homologous areas of other types of HCV. Polypeptide set has polypeptides containing amino acid residues of type-specific or cluster-specific HCV epitopes.
