FIELD: lighting engineering and light sources, in particular, highly intensive sources of optical radiation. SUBSTANCE: the method is based on transformation of energy of microwave radiation to energy of plasma in a closed volume and provides for transfer of microwave radiation in pulsed operation at a pulse length of 20 to 100 μs and pulse-to-pulse duration ratio within 3 to 8. The density of input power of microwave radiation makes up 1 to 4 kW per cu.cm of the mentioned closed volume. The high-intensity electrodeless microwave tube has a burner with a bulb of optically transparent material filled with a plasma- forming compound of substances, DC voltage source, microwave oscillator, for example, a magnetron, and a microwave electrodynamic system, for example, a resonator with a translucent section in the area of location of the mentioned bulb, it is featured by introduction in a circuit containing a DC voltage source and a microwave oscillator, and a pulse-network modulator. EFFECT: enhanced economic efficiency, operate reliability, intensity indices, as well as improved ecology and universality of employment of the device for generation of optical radiation. 3 cl, 2 dwg
