FIELD: metallurgy; making steel in open-hearth furnaces. SUBSTANCE: open-hearth pool has rear and front banks whose inner surface has varying angle of inclination in height as it approaches hearth where bottom blowing unit on basis of VVS system and transversal banks are located. Inner surface of at least rear bank has angle of inclination increasing in height at approach to hearth at smooth transition between inner surfaces of hearth and bank. Inner surface of at least rear bank is made in form of quadratic or broken curve. EFFECT: enhanced economical efficiency of heat due to maximum use of bottom blowing procedure and additional mixing of metal layers. 3 cl, 7 dwg
