FIELD: mechanical engineering, in particular, operations of grinding of blanks of various steels and alloys. SUBSTANCE: subjected to grinding is a specimen with preliminarily weighed and measured in length rods of porous material installed in its cylindrical holes. Such prepared specimens are installed on a machine tool and ground during a certain period of time by a wheel with a layer of lubricant applied onto its surface. In the process of grinding lubricant contacts with the specimen surface heated to a high temperature and changes from a solid or plastic physical state to a liquid one and impregnates the upper part of porous rods changing their mass. A portion of lubricant sticks to the surface of the rods. After grinding the rods are extracted from the specimen, their mass and length are determined. Using the given formulas, the mean value of the mass of lubricant sticked to the porous rod or impregnated it, as well as the consumption of lubricant-cooling technological compound per unit of the area of the specimen ground surface, are calculated.
