FIELD: railway transport. SUBSTANCE: proposed car retarder has drive sections, intermediate supports, brake beams with brake blocks securing on levers in tandem at both sides of rail, bases, pneumatic cylinders and weight balancers. Levers are hinge-mounted on bases and are connected with pneumatic cylinders. Intermediate supports are united in pairs to form intermediate sections and are rigidly connected with adjacent drive sections by stiffening members. Each brake beam is secured on levers independently from adjacent brake beams. Pneumatic cylinder can be furnished with buffer from side of rod. Buffer is made in form of flexible ring installed in housing and engaging with piston when is extended into extreme position. It is expedient to arrange weight balancer in separate housing and connect it with lever and base of drive section by means of hinge joint. EFFECT: improved rigidly of car retarder capable of taking higher dynamic loads, enhanced operation reliability and increased service life of car retarder. 3 cl, 6 dwg
