FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing 5- alkoxypentanones-2 of formula: CH3CO(CH2)3OR wherein R is CnH2n+1 n is 1-10 by reacting acetylcyclopropane with monohydric alcohol R-OH in the presence of palladium-containing catalyst in aqueous medium in the presence of original alcohol R-OH as solvent or in aqueous-ether medium at temperatures from 165 to 200 C for 6-60 hours at acetylcyclopropane to R-OH to H2O to catalyst to solvent molar ratio of 1:1:(3-8):(0.001- 0.01:(2 9) is R is CnH2n+1 (n is 1-3), solvent is corresponding alcohol, and if n is equal or greater than 4, solvent is diethyl alcohol. Method makes it possible to attain yield of products of 43-97%. EFFECT: low consumption of catalyst and no toxic waste. 2 ex, 4 tbl
