FIELD: checking securities (bank notes) for authenticity, wear, and dirt; analyzing their image in various parts of spectrum in their sorting by automatic machines. SUBSTANCE: securities reader has bank note transport unit, lighting unit that functions to uniformly illuminate bank note within checking area, receiving device (video camera), signal conversion units, and computer for signal processing and comparing with reference data; receiving device incorporates provision for separating light flux upon its passage through lens by means of semi-transparent mirror so that similar pixels are simultaneously projected onto identical cells of photomatrices. Lighting unit may be built around fluorescent lamps for illuminating banknote area under check in visible section of spectrum and rows (strips) of infrared- emitting diodes.
