FIELD: transportation mechanical engineering, drum-and-block brakes of transportation facilities, road and building machines. SUBSTANCE: device for cooling drum-and-block brakes is made of thermocouple rods. Spring-loaded hollow thermo-conducting inserts with convex bridges moving in longitudinal slots of linings are fitted in pairs to the cold junctions of unlike thermocouples whose end faces are placed at a depth of the linings allowable wear. The unlike thermocouples, from the side of fixing the rim of the drum with flange, at a depth of allowable wear of the linings, are interconnected by means of internal surface of convex thermo- conducting plates whose external surfaces are flush mounted with the linings and represent hot junctions of thermocouples. The method is, that constant current source is connected to the first and last hot junction of the thermocouples placed from the side of the rim free edge. In so doing, the thermocouple of n-type conducting is connected to the positive terminal of the constant current source and the thermocouple of p-type conduction is connected to the negative terminal of the constant current source to increase the strength of current of thermoelectric cooler generated by thermoelectric generator. Cold junctions of thermocouples placed from the side of fixing edge of the drum are connected to the circuit of constant electric current which is turned on for working process between brake actions. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of forced cooling of friction units, producing conditions of brakes and service life of friction pairs. 2 cl, 4 dwg
