FIELD: mechanical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: device comprises braking plate, braking drum, and two self-adjusting brake blocks with friction linings on the front and back sections provided with cooling units. The cooling units are made of thermopiles of two types. The first one is composed of thermal elements with electronic and hole conductivity. The thermal elements are made of square rods which are interconnected from the side of working surfaces of the friction linings over their width via metallic cross-pieces and pass through the body of the linings and heat insulated openings in the base of the blocks. From below, the edges of the square rods are interconnected by means of plates-heat-exchangers. The thermopiles are arranged in the front and back sections of the left and right brake blocks. The sections of the working surfaces of the friction linings of the brake blocks cooperate with the working surface of the brake drum. The second thermopile has thermal elements with positive and negative polarity. The thermal elements are made of rectangular plates mounted in the body of the friction linings. The method comprises making two types of thermopiles. The first one is composed of thermal elements of electronic and hole conductivity and operates in the regime of thermoelectric cooler. The second one has thermal elements with positive and negative polarity and operates in the regime of thermoelectric generator. The thermal elements with positive and negative polarities are connected with the positive and negative terminals of the DC power source during operation of the brake, and the remainder time the circuits of the thermopiles are disconnected from the power sources and operate independently.

EFFECT: prolonged service life.
