FIELD: transport.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building and may be used in heavy-duty drum-shoe brakes. The system contains brake drum, brake shoes with base, friction pads and ribs, includes thermal elements embedded into brake shoes with pads which thermal elements is made as thermobatteries. Working surfaces of rim and pads are divided by longitudinal grooves of various width which are aligned in vertical plane thus forming independent friction pairs - "metal disks - friction pad sectors". The thermobatteries connected to external electric current source work in the mode of thermal electric generator providing heating near-surface layers of friction pad sectors. When polarity of external circuit current is changed the thermobatteries work in the mode of thermal electric cooler thus providing cooling of near-surface layers of friction pad sectors. In mixed processes of "heating -cooling" thermobattery cells function as cold junctions.

EFFECT: possibility of thermoelectric polarisation evaluation for drum-shoe brake friction pad surfaces in test conditions due to implementation of mixed processes - "heating - cooling" including polarisation of friction pad section surfaces during their cooling and by action of polarising external electric field due to semipermanent rate of heating by means of thermobatteries working in modes of thermal electric generator and thermal electric cooler.
