FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in heavily loaded drum-and-shoe brakes. Proposed brake mechanism with servo action consists of three-shoe (main) and two-shoe (additional) brakes with drives. Thermoelectric cooling devices are fitted lengthwise the shoes of main and additional brakes. Novelty is that in two-shoe brake semiconductor thermopiles are installed in self-pressing brake shoe, and thermopiles composed of plate thermocouples, in self-release shoe. In three-shoe brakes thermopiles composed of plate thermocouples are installed in right-hand and left-hand brake shoes, and in upper brake shoe two semiconductor thermopiles are installed separately. According to proposed new method of cooling, in two-shoe brake terminals in form of thermal electrodes of extreme plate thermocouples with positive and negative terminals in self-release brake shoe connected through dc stabilizer in parallel with first and last hot junctions of thermal electrodes with n-type and type conduction of thermopile of self-pressing brake shoe, and in three-shoe brake, extreme thermal electrodes of plate thermocouples of left-hand and ring-hand brake shoes are connected separately through dc stabilizers in parallel with hot junctions of thermal elements with n-type and p-type conduction of separate thermopiles if upper brake shoe. EFFECT: improved operating parameters of brake, its reliability and increased service life of friction units. 3 cl, 7 dwg
