FIELD: measurement technology; measurement of length of moving material. SUBSTANCE: required frequency of alternating self-excited oscillations of material relative to line of its motion at swing equal to distance between two optoelectronic sensors and recording number of swings of self-excited oscillations in electronic counter; length of material in roll is calculated with the aid of microprocessor according to preset algorithm. Device used for said method embodiment includes single-roll orientation system of moving material with drive working member, three optoelectronic sensors, self-excited oscillation counter and microprocessor for calculating the length of material ensuring symmetrical alternating self-excited oscillations in transversal direction of material motion relative to preset line of motion in transversal direction.
