METHOD FOR DETERMINING TIME REMOTENESS OF FOCAL CEREBRAL INJURIES Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

Abstract RU 2177251 C1

FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves evaluating macroscopic morphologic features in making autopsy, performing histologic examination of material taken from perifocal zone close to injury focus with microscopic features being evaluated. When making evaluation, criteria distinctly correlating with time factor are taken into consideration. All selected criteria are compared for defining focal brain tissue injury time remoteness as follows. 2-3 days long time remoteness period is assigned when insignificantly softening consistency of substantia medullaris in lesion focus is detected with honeycombed structure of substantia medullaris and insignificant number of segmented leukocytes. 4-6 days long time remoteness is set in correspondence to flabby consistency of substantia medullaris, honeycombed structure of substantia medullaris when edema zone width is not greater than 2-4 mm over the injured zone perimeter, segmented leukocytes amount reaches 1/4 of the whole cell stock and beginning of small vascular fissure formation is observed. 8-11 days long time remoteness is characterized with gruel consistency of substantia medullaris, distinct demarcation line formation, endothelial cells being available in the amount of 1/4 of the whole cell stock and beginning of granular balls formation. 12-18 days long time remoteness is distinguished by semiliquid consistency of substantia medullaris, distinct demarcation line formed over the whole injured zone perimeter, beginning of cystic cavity formation, granular balls contents reaching 1/5-1/4 of the whole cell stock, vascular response being significantly marked and endothelial cells being available in the amount of 1/4-1/3 of the whole cell stock. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of diagnosis; simplified method.
