FIELD: mechanical engineering; engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed internal combustion engine has framework with at least one compartment with two cylinder liners installed opposite to each other, main shaft and camshaft interconnected by mechanical train and driving mechanism including pistons and main shaft. One piston with two heads is installed in two opposite liners of each compartment of framework. Piston pin is fitted in middle of piston. End of piston pin projecting from piston is made in form of spherical head. Cylindrical main shaft is installed in framework on bearings. Two cylindrical pins are cantilever mounted on one of shaft end face from side of cylinder liners. Axes of pins are square to longitudinal axis of main shaft. Driving mechanism is provided with rocking crank one end of which is connected with spherical head of piston pin through spherical bearing, and other end is connected with pins of main shaft by bearings. If engine framework consists of more than one compartment, main shafts of each compartment are mechanically interconnected by camshaft through gear train for transmitting torque to one of main shafts. Proposed internal combustion engine features simplified design with exclusion of expensive units and parts such as crankshaft, reduced number of pistons, dispersing with connecting rods, reduced overall dimensions and weight, reduced labor input in overhauls, decreased requirements to accuracy of manufacture of working mechanism and provision of axis-to-axis distances owing to use of spherical bearing in rocking crank, improved ecology and reduced fuel consumption. EFFECT: increased service life owing to reciprocating and rotary motion of piston and reduced piston pressure on cylinder wall, reduced cost of manufacture and operating expenses. 2 cl, 4 dwg
