FIELD: data storage and polling systems using magnetic tags or labels. SUBSTANCE: magnetic label or tag has first magnetic material distinguished by high magnetic permeability, low coercive force, and nonlinear B-H characteristic; first layer of magnetic material is covered with second layer of magnetic material made for maintaining permanent saturated state and having heterogeneous pattern of magnetic-field lines of force. Novelty is that second layer of magnetic material has plurality of discrete magnetized sections of saturating material; each of discrete sections shows different combination of saturation level and direction with the result that during polling by means of variable magnetic field at constant frequency saturation level of each of mentioned discrete sections can be negotiated during different time of polling cycle.
